Presentation of World Heritage in School Project by the Association of Italian World Heritage Sites

Tuesday, September 7, 2016, the World Heritage in School Project was presented in the Sala Spadolini of MiBACT. The project was developed by the Association of Italian World Heritage Sites, where the Municipality of Florence is a member.

The project, funded by the MiBACT 77/2006 Act, aims to be a tool for presenting UNESCO’s principles in schools; so that students are aware of the value and importance of conservation of World Heritage sites in Italy.

The project is characterised by the educational portal patrimonionellascuola.it, where it is possible to find two sections: one dedicated to teachers, and the other section to students. This portal allows you to discover the Italian World Heritage Sites. It also provides possible historical, cultural, and naturalistic insights. In addition, the portal allows you to subscribe to activities for schools that each World Heritage Sites proposes.

The press conference was attended by

  • Honourable Ilaria Borletti Buitoni, Under-Secretary of State of MiBACT, with responsibility for UNESCO;
  • Giacomo Bassi, President of the Italian Association of World Heritage Sites and the mayor of San Gimignano;
  • Carlo Francini, Scientific Coordinator of the Association, Head of the UNESCO Office of the Municipality of Florence and site manager of the World Heritage site “Historic Centre of Florence.”
