Firenze per Bene: 190 students to raise awareness about the importance of Florence’s Wold Heritage site

Florence, 18 April 2016 – Since 1982, the Historic Centre of Florence has been a World Heritage site. As such, it is in the interest of everyone to respect it, protect it, and appreciate it; in order to pass it on unharmed, and in its authenticity, to next generations. This is the long-term objective of Firenze per Bene; the project that will be promoted from 18 to 22 April (10:00-16:00). About 190 students from Istituto Marco Polo and Machiavelli Capponi are expected to partake in its promotion. The activity will be a part of work-study program in collaboration with UNESCO Centre of Florence ONLUS.

The students will go to five squares of the Historic Centre of Florence (Piazza della Signoria, Piazza Santa Croce, Piazza Santa Maria Novella, Piazza Ognissanti, and Piazza Santa Trinita) to promote Firenze per Bene. They will raise awareness, to as many people as possible, about the value of the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Historic Centre of Florence. The students will give out handbooks, maps, and a pocket ashtray, all provided by Firenze per Bene.

During the initiative, the students will be supported by the UNESCO Centre of Florence ONLUS, the UNESCO Office of the Municipality of Florence, and students of Syracuse University- who have been collaborating with the project since 2014.
